Part 2: The Double Revelation

Part 4: The Eviction from Grace

“Laura… oh God, Laura…” Diego fell to his knees beside the examination table, reaching out to touch my hand, his eyes red and brimming with desperate, pathetic tears. “I made a terrible mistake. Please… the stress at work, Paola telling me things… I was so confused! They’re my babies, Laura. Our twins.”

I pulled my hand away before his fingers could even touch my skin.

“Don’t touch me, Diego,” I said, stepping off the table and smoothing down my dress. “You didn’t just doubt a test. You humiliated me in front of our families, you posted about my supposed betrayal on social media, and you brought your mistress to a cafe to demand I pay you back for ‘marital expenses.'”

Paola tried to grab Diego’s arm from behind. “Diego, get up! Stop embarrassing yourself in front of her! You chose me!”

Diego shoved her arm off so hard she stumbled against the wall. “Get away from me, Paola!” he yelled, his voice echoing through the clinical hallway. “You destroyed my life! You lied to me about the timeline!”

“You destroyed your own life, Diego,” Dr. Salinas interjected sternly, stepping between him and my path to the door. “Now I suggest you and this woman leave my clinic before I call hospital security.”

Diego stood up, tears falling freely down his face as he looked at me with a hollow, broken despair. “Laura, please… come home. We can fix this. I’ll fire Paola, I’ll tell my mother the truth, I’ll delete the posts—”

“The house belongs to my family, Diego,” I said, pulling my purse over my shoulder and looking him straight in the eye. “Your mother has until five o’clock today to bring back every single box of clothes she took. And by tomorrow morning, my attorney will be delivering a revised divorce settlement to your office.”
