Part 2: The Double Revelation

Part 3: The Broken Lie

Diego staggered backward, his knees going weak as he leaned against the doorframe for support. The color completely drained from his face as his eyes darted from the screen to me, then down at my trembling hands.

“Eleven weeks… twins?” Diego stammered, his voice cracking. “Laura… why didn’t you tell me the doctor said the vasectomy wasn’t instant?”

“I tried to tell you, Diego,” I said, my voice cold and steady despite the tears streaming down my face. “The very morning I showed you the test, I tried to explain what the surgeon had warned us about. But you didn’t listen. You called me a liar, packed your bags, and ran straight into her bed.”

Diego slowly turned around to face Paola, his expression shifting from shock to a dark, rising suspicion. “Paola… you told me you talked to your brother, the urologist. You told me a vasectomy works forty-eight hours after the procedure. You swore to me she had to be cheating!”

Paola’s cheeks flushed a bright, burning red. She took a step back into the hallway, her hands fluttering nervously. “Diego, honey, I… I was just telling you what I thought was true! How was I supposed to know?”

“You knew because you wanted him out of my house!” I declared, sitting up on the examination table and wiping the cold gel from my stomach. “You wanted him to leave before he ever had the chance to go to a single doctor’s appointment with me!”

Diego pulled out his phone, his hands shaking so violently he almost dropped it. He began scrolling frantically through his text messages, reading back the dates, the doctor’s initial consultation notes, and the timelines he had ignored in his rush to abandon our eight-year marriage.
