The man was Marcus Vance, a predatory private lender who had tricked Rachel’s late father into signing away his life’s savings before his passing.
Rachel had taken on the entire debt herself, spending her daily noon breaks visiting a local care center to pay off medical bills and shield her younger sister from Marcus’s threats.
“She owes half a million dollars,” Marcus sneered, glaring at Daniel. “Unless she pays in full by the end of the month, I take ownership of everything she touches.”
Daniel stood his ground, his fists clenching tight as he ordered Marcus off his property, promising to protect Rachel no matter the personal cost.
Late that evening, after the garage lights were dimmed, Daniel sat alone at his desk and opened the financial vault containing his entire family inheritance.
He knew what he had to do, but when he opened Rachel’s employee file the next morning, he found her desk completely empty and her pink suitcase gone.
