Part 2
The sudden silence in the grand auction hall was so absolute that you could hear the faint hum of the air conditioning system. Fifty million dollars was an absurd, astronomical figure for a piece of contemporary diamond art, no matter how intricate the craftsmanship. The crowd parted like the Red Sea as the mysterious bidder stepped forward from the shadows of the rear exit.
Underneath the dark hood, a pair of sharp, intelligent eyes locked onto the stage, specifically targeting the vibrant peacock diamond painting. The artwork seemed to pulse with an almost supernatural brilliance, its hundreds of faceted resin drills reflecting the opulent chandeliers above. The meticulous gradients of deep cobalt blue, shimmering magenta, and brilliant emerald green formed a hypnotic pattern that completely mesmerized everyone in attendance.
Arthur Vance stood frozen, his paddle still raised in mid-air, his mouth slightly open. Julian, on the other hand, had gone completely pale, his smug composure vanishing in an instant. He knew that voice. I knew that voice too, and it sent a cold shiver straight down my spine.
“Fifty million dollars is the bid,” the auctioneer stammered, his professional demeanor cracking for the first time in his twenty-year career. He cleared his throat loudly, looking around the room for any sign of a counter-offer. “Do I hear fifty-one million?”
Silence. The wealthy elite looked at one another, completely outmatched and unwilling to tangle with someone possessing that kind of financial power.
“Going once… going twice…” The gavel came down with a sharp, definitive crack. “Sold! To the mysterious bidder in the back.” ……..🔨
