Part 2: The Silent Network

Part 4: The Unmasking

Twenty minutes later, I pulled into my driveway. The rainy afternoon sky cast a gray, somber light over our quiet suburban home.

Nora was sitting on the front porch, holding a warm cup of tea, wearing one of Liam’s old sweaters. She smiled warmly as I stepped out of the car, her eyes filled with that same practiced, sympathetic pity she had worn for an entire month.

“Hey, honey,” Nora said softly, standing up. “How was the trip to Liam’s old office? Did you manage to clear out his personal desk?”

I didn’t answer right away. I walked slowly up the porch steps, keeping my hands inside my coat pockets. “Nora, why did you notarize a power-of-attorney document on the night Liam died?”

Nora froze, her hand hovering over her cup of tea. Her warm, sympathetic expression flickered, replaced for a fraction of a second by a cold, calculating stillness.

“What are you talking about, Em?” she asked, forcing a light, nervous laugh. “Grief is making you confused. I didn’t sign anything like that.”

“Fifty thousand dollars, Nora,” I said, stepping closer until I was inches from her face. “Three separate transfers. Liam knew about Victor. He knew about the shell accounts. And he left every single piece of evidence inside his office safe.”

Nora’s face drained of every drop of color. She backed toward the front door, her voice dropping into a sharp, venomous hiss. “You were always the favorite, Emily. Liam was going to ruin everything… he was going to take down my firm!”

To see the final justice served and Emily reclaim her life, continue reading below for the final part.
