Part 4: The Handcuffs of Truth
Before Richard could speak or take another step, the grand double doors of the theater swung open. Four federal agents and two uniformed state police officers marched down the central aisle, their heavy boots clacking against the hardwood floor.
“Richard Vance?” the lead investigator asked, pulling a certified arrest warrant from his jacket. “You are under arrest for medical kidnapping, grand corporate embezzlement, and conspiracy to obstruct justice.”
“No! This is a conspiracy! My son fabricated everything!” Richard screamed, thrashing as the officers seized his arms, pulling his hands behind his back. The steel handcuffs clicked loudly into place—a sound that carried across the entire silent theater.
Victoria tried to back away into the crowd, but an agent stepped in her path. “Victoria Vance, you are also being brought in for questioning regarding the falsification of guardianship records and tax fraud.”
The high-society guests who had spent years flattering the Vances now pulled away, their faces filled with disgust as the couple was escorted out of the grand hall in handcuffs, surrounded by a wall of flashing camera bulbs and shouting reporters.
Mateo stood firmly in the center of the aisle, holding his mother’s hand tightly. Elena looked up at her son, tears streaming down her face, but for the first time in two decades, her eyes held no fear—only complete, peaceful liberation.
