Two large, professional security guards stepped forward immediately, placing a firm barrier between Philip and Giselle.
Giselle stopped and turned around slowly. She looked at Philip, then at Fiona, and finally at Vanessa. Her expression was serene, devoid of anger or bitterness—only cold, absolute clarity.
“Tell you what, Philip?” Giselle asked quietly. “That I owned the firm you were begging to save your business? Or that the house you live in was bought with my grandfather’s trust?”
“Giselle, please, let us talk about this in private,” Fiona stammered, her voice shaking as she tried to smile warmly. “We are family! There has clearly been a terrible misunderstanding tonight.”
“There is no misunderstanding, Fiona,” Giselle replied evenly. “You told me earlier tonight that some people never learn elegance. But true elegance is not about expensive clothes or public titles. It is about how you treat people when you think they have no power.”
Philip reached out a hand, his face pale and desperate. “Giselle, I am your husband! We can fix this. I will end everything with Vanessa right now. Just come home.”
Vanessa’s eyes widened in shock, but Philip did not even look at her.
Giselle looked down at the silver watch on Philip’s wrist—the one she had bought him years ago when she still believed in his promise.
“You left me home to clean up broken pieces, Philip,” Giselle said softly, her voice carrying unwavering finality. “So that is exactly what I am doing. I am cleaning up the broken pieces of my life, starting by removing you from it.”
She turned to her executive assistant standing nearby. “Arthur, please instruct our legal team to deliver the divorce papers and the formal eviction notices to Mr. Clayton’s office first thing tomorrow morning.”
“Right away, Chairwoman,” Arthur replied with a respectful nod.
Giselle turned her back on them and walked toward the center of the room to greet the city’s true leaders, leaving Philip, Fiona, and Vanessa standing frozen in the middle of the crowded ballroom under the bright, unforgiving lights.
