“Mr. and Mrs. Harper,” Agent Miller began, her tone measured and professional. “We are currently reviewing the contents of the container recovered from Miss Bennett’s bag. We are also reviewing a digital evidence file uploaded to our secure portal precisely forty-five minutes before you entered the security line.”

Grant’s head snapped toward me, his brow furrowing as he tried to calculate what she meant. “A digital file? What are you talking about?”

Agent Miller opened her folder, pulling out several high-resolution color photographs. She slid them across the table, arraying them in a neat row in front of Grant.

The photographs were crystal clear. They showed the interior of our master bedroom from the previous night, taken under low-light conditions. One image captured Grant crouched beside my open suitcase with a small utility knife in his hand. Another showed the distinct serial number of the matte-gray metal case. A third photograph showed the exact moment he pushed the container into the lining of the bag.

Grant stared at the images, his breath hitching in his throat. Color drained entirely from his face, leaving him a pale, ghost-like gray.

“These images were uploaded alongside a detailed forensic audit,” Agent Miller explained, placing her hands on the back of a chair. “The submission includes time-stamped digital receipts, flight manifests, and cross-referenced banking records from several offshore entities linked to Harper Capital Logistics. Furthermore, the submission alerted us that an attempt would be made to conceal illicit materials inside luggage traveling on this flight.”

“This is absurd,” Grant stammered, his voice lacking its former strength. “This is a setup. My wife has been struggling with severe emotional distress. She’s been imagining things for months—financial irregularities, personal betrayals. She staged these photos to ruin me!”

I quietly reached into my handbag, pulled out a small, pristine leather notebook, and placed it on the table in front of Agent Miller.

“Agent Miller,” I said clearly, keeping my voice steady and firm. “Inside that notebook, you will find the chain of custody for every photograph, as well as the independent forensic audit completed by a certified third-party investigator yesterday afternoon. You will also find the security camera footage from the airport hotel room this morning.”

Grant turned to me, his eyes wide with disbelief. “What hotel room footage?”

“The footage showing you moving the metal container from my suitcase into Layla’s bag while she was in the lobby ordering coffee,” I replied quietly. “You realized at the last minute that my bag had been re-lined, didn’t you? You panicked, assuming I had noticed the cut in the fabric. You couldn’t risk carrying the case yourself, so you moved it into the one bag you knew wouldn’t be linked directly to our home.”

Grant opened his mouth to speak, but no sound came out. The silence in the room was absolute.

“In addition,” I continued, addressing Agent Miller directly, “the flash drive found inside that container contains several files bearing my forged electronic signature. However, if your technical team examines the metadata on those specific files, they will see that the digital creation certificates originate from Grant’s personal laptop, created three days ago at 1:15 AM while I was asleep.”
