“Your uncle’s political office holds no authority over joint task force investigations involving federal personnel and domestic violence reports,” Major Vance replied coldly, pulling a signed court order from his leather folder. “Because Colonel Gardner’s immediate family member was held under duress, and because foreign official communications were intercepted near federal defense transport corridors surrounding Fort Hamilton, this case fell under immediate federal purview three hours ago.”

Patricia took a hasty step back, her hand flying to her throat. “What foreign communications? That’s absurd! My sons are legitimate real estate developers!”

I turned my attention fully back to Nicholas and Gregory. “When you locked my daughter in that room, Nicholas, you didn’t just take her personal phone. You took her military dependent identification card and the secure communication tablet she uses to reach my command office during my deployments. That tablet contains encrypted defense logistics applications. The moment you forcibly seized that device and attempted to crack its biometric security, an automated federal silent alarm went off at the military intelligence hub in Fort Bragg.”

The silence that followed was heavy and suffocating. Gregory attempted to step past the officers toward the exit, but one of the local police officers placed a firm hand on his shoulder, blocking his path entirely.

“You thought my daughter was just an isolated girl with no backing,” I continued, taking a step toward Nicholas until I was standing mere inches from him. “You believed that wealth and local political connections made your family untouchable. You thought that because I was deployed or stationed at the base, I wouldn’t notice the gradual isolation, the psychological control, and finally, the physical violence.”

“Mom, please,” Nicholas stammered, his arrogant posture collapsing into visible panic. “It was just an argument. We can talk about this. We can fix this outside of court!”

“There is no ‘fixing’ this, Nicholas,” I said, my voice cutting through his pleas like a blade. “The local police are arresting you and your brother for unlawful imprisonment, domestic assault, and tampering with evidence. Major Vance and his team are taking custody of the digital drives to file secondary federal charges regarding the unauthorized possession of secure military communication equipment.”

The local officers stepped forward, producing two pairs of handcuffs. Within seconds, the sharp metallic clicks echoed through the room. Nicholas began to babble excuses, his voice rising in panic as he looked toward his mother for help, but Patricia could only stare in speechless horror as her sons were turned around and restrained.
