Part 2
But in the blink of an eye, everything changed!
As both eyes fluttered completely open, the gray concrete wall vibrated.
Not a little hum. 📳
A deep, base-heavy thrum that made the clover in his hand dance.
Max’s eyes, widening past surprise and into utter, complete astonishment, locked onto the gray surface. 👁️👁️
It wasn’t a wall. Not really.
It was a giant, hydraulic garage door disguised as rock. 🤯
And it was slowly, slowly beginning to grind upwards.
Max dropped the clover.
He forgot about his dramatic, silent call.
The orange fuzz on his shoulders stood on end.
What was on the other side? A new, even better patch of clover?
A life of unlimited mangoes and zero observation windows? 🥭
His heart, which had been slow and heavy, was now racing.
It wasn’t fear, though. Not this time.
It was adrenaline. It was curiosity.
It was the original human… er, great ape… emotion.
The door was now halfway up. Max was standing, on all fours, ready to bolt.
He could see boots. Black, scuffed boots. 👢
And then, legs in khaki pants.
And finally, smiles.
There was Dave, the keeper with the good bananas.
And Sarah, the one who always knew where the itchy spot was.
And behind them? His siblings.
Leo, hanging by one foot, holding a sign that read, “SURPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MAX!” 🎈
And Maya, waving a giant, foil balloon in the shape of, you guessed it, a banana.
They were all there.
The whole time.
The empty observatory? They were just in the back, inflating balloons and practicing the song.
The silence? It was for dramatic effect.
The call Max had started, his perfect “O” of realization, had been the signal.
When he went quiet, the party began.
Max’s wide eyes weren’t just staring in surprise anymore.
