The entire gymnasium froze as Caleb held the trembling white envelope high in the air, his voice echoing clearly through the microphone.
Patrick shifted uncomfortably in his seat beside me, his usual calm demeanor instantly shattering as sweat broke out across his forehead.
“For six months, I couldn’t figure out why my full-ride acceptance letters to my dream universities kept disappearing,” Caleb announced to the packed crowd.
Gasps echoed through the audience as teachers and parents leaned forward, trying to make sense of the high school senior’s shocking claim.
Caleb tore open the envelope, pulling out a stack of intercepted acceptance letters and forged rejection responses bearing Patrick’s personal signature.
“You didn’t want me to leave for college because you wanted my mother to keep paying for your failed business investments,” Caleb said, his voice ringing with pure truth.
