PART 3: THE SECRET RECORDINGS
I stood up calmly, adjusting my jacket before taking the podium with the exact poise and authority I had used in military courtrooms for a decade.
“Your Honor, if I may submit Exhibit A into the record,” I said, handing a certified flash drive to the bailiff.
My parents watched in growing panic as the judge inserted the drive and turned on the courtroom’s main audio system.
My grandmother’s firm, clear voice echoed through the speakers, recorded just six months before her peaceful passing alongside her estate lawyer.
“I am leaving everything to my granddaughter,” my grandmother’s voice stated proudly. “She serves our country with honor, while my own children only call me when they want money.”
The recording went on to detail how my parents had repeatedly tried to pressure her for early advances on her estate, proving beyond any doubt that they were the ones trying to manipulate her.
My mother buried her face in her hands, unable to meet the judge’s stern gaze as the entire room realized the truth.
