My husband, Logan, and I had been married for sixteen years. He was my husband and my best friend. My mother was also my closest friend.
Together with our twelve-year-old son, Noah, I believed nothing could ever break our family. Then one evening, Noah rushed home looking pale.
“Mom… I think I just saw Dad.” “He probably stopped somewhere on his way home.” “He wasn’t alone.”
Something in his voice made me turn around. “Who was with him?” “Grandma.” I laughed. It sounded impossible.
But Noah insisted he had seen them leave the same car and enter an old roadside motel. I told him there had to be a simple explanation.
Even so, a terrible feeling settled in my stomach. Minutes later, Logan sent me a message. “Don’t wait up for dinner. I’m stuck at work.” He was lying.
I drove straight to the motel. At the front desk, I explained that I needed to deliver important work documents to my husband. The clerk checked the reservation and gave me the room number.
I found the room. The door was unlocked. I pushed it open.
The moment I saw what they were doing, I went pale.
