THE UNSPOKEN TRUTH

PART 3: THE REVELATION AT THE DOCK

The air rushed out of my lungs as I stared at the name on the old paper: Clara Vance, an heiress whose mysterious disappearance had dominated local news years before I ever met Ryan.

“That’s not all,” Mrs. Delaney whispered, sliding a secondary police report across the table. “This marriage was never dissolved, which means your ceremony yesterday was legally invalid, but more importantly… the investigation into Clara’s disappearance was halted by an anonymous settlement.”

I stood at the bottom of the steps, looking into the eyes of the man I had married, realizing I was standing in front of a complete stranger who held dangerous secrets.

Before I could speak, Ryan set the mugs down slowly, his smile fading into a look of profound, solemn recognition as his eyes caught the government folder in my hand.
