PART 3: UNCOVERING THE TRUTH
When I burst through the front door, my daughters were sitting at the dining table, quietly drinking tea as if nothing had ever happened.
“We need to talk,” I said firmly, throwing the folded paper onto the center of the wooden table.
My eldest daughter didn’t flinch. She slowly set her cup down and looked at me with an intensity that seemed far beyond her teenage years. “We were protecting you, Mom.”
“Protecting me?” I demanded, my voice cracking under the emotional strain. “By blackmailing every man who walks into my life?”
My youngest daughter reached under the table and pulled out a small black flash drive, placing it right next to the note. “Four years ago, right before Dad passed away, he told us that if anyone ever tried to get close to you, we had to check their backgrounds first.”
It turned out that every single man I had dated—including Daniel—had been connected to my late husband’s former business partner, a man who had been secretly trying to locate an offshore estate trust left entirely in my name.
My daughters hadn’t been acting out of malice; they had uncovered a coordinated attempt to manipulate me and strip away our family’s remaining security.
