PART 4: A FATHER’S TRUE NAME
Nora handed me a pen as the dean smiled warmly, opening the leather folder on the podium.
Inside were official adult adoption papers, fully drafted and signed by all three girls, legally changing their last names to mine and declaring me their rightful father in the eyes of the law.
“You were never just our uncle, Dad,” Nora whispered, pulling me into a fierce, tight embrace. “You were the man who stayed.”
Maya and Elise wrapped their arms around us, crying tears of overwhelming relief and joy as the entire auditorium erupted into a thunderous standing ovation.
The hardware store, the quiet sacrifices, and the lonely nights vanished beneath the warmth of the three strong, independent women standing beside me.
We walked off that stage together, hand in hand, no longer bound by mere blood, but forever united by an unbreakable love that had withstood the test of time.
