PART 3: THE BURIED SCHEME
“Three months ago, you went to my fiancee’s oncologist behind our backs,” Ethan announced clearly, his eyes piercing through his mother’s pale face. “You tried to bribe her medical team to declare her unfit for marriage so you could void our engagement.”
Gasps filled the chapel as my own parents stood up from the front row in sheer disbelief and rage at Diane’s unbelievable betrayal.
Ethan turned the paper around, showing his mother’s own handwritten signature on a private investigator’s contract meant to track my medical history and dig up anything she could use against me.
“You knew she was in total remission,” Ethan continued, stepping closer to Diane until she took a timid step backward. “You knew she was healthy, but you couldn’t stand that she was stronger than your control over my life.”
Diane’s face flushed with deep shame as her husband, Ethan’s father, slowly stood up from his seat, looking at his wife with complete horror and disgust.
Before Diane could utter another word of defense, Ethan gently took my wig from her trembling hand and tossed it onto a nearby table, completely unbothered by her pathetic attempt to humiliate me.
