PART 3: THE DARING INTERVENTION
Emily knew she had less than twenty minutes before the formal champagne toast would legally lock the modified corporate merger into effect.
She purposefully spilled a tray of ice water near the main legal table, creating a momentary distraction that allowed her to slide the original document out from under the registry folder.
With her heart pounding against her ribs, she rushed toward the groom’s private suite where Alexander was adjusting his cufflinks before the grand entrance.
“Mr. Whitmore, you need to read page twelve of the document you signed twenty minutes ago,” Emily said firmly, stepping straight into the room despite the security guard’s protests.
Alexander frowned, initially annoyed by the sudden interruption, until Emily handed him the authentic legal pages she had recovered from the catering room printer.
As his eyes scanned the fraudulent transfer terms, the blood drained from his face, replaced by a sudden, sharp realization of the betrayal happening under his own roof.
“They swapped the binder before the signing ceremony,” Emily explained quietly. “Your best man and your bride have been coordinating this entire evening.”
Outside the heavy mahogany doors, the brass band began playing the fanfare for the final toast, signaling that Vanessa and Daniel were taking the main stage.
