PART 3: THE EMPIRE RECLAIMED
By Monday morning, the corporate headquarters of Langley Medical Logistics was buzzing with anxiety and whispered rumors.
I walked through the glass doors of the executive suite wearing a tailored navy suit, accompanied by Diane and our chief financial auditor.
The board of directors was already assembled in the main conference room, their faces pale as they looked at the morning headlines.
Arthur Bell stood at the head of the table, clearing his throat awkwardly as I took the seat at the head of the boardroom.
“Claire,” Arthur began carefully, “we are facing a public relations nightmare, and the bank is threatening to freeze our operational credit lines.”
I opened my laptop, connected it to the central display screen, and pulled up the revised corporate ledger.
“Our lines of credit are secure,” I announced, looking each board member dead in the eye. “Because the stolen funds have already been recovered and re-deposited into the master trust account.”
A collective sigh of relief washed through the room as the board members realized the company was not only stable, but stronger than ever.
Arthur stared at the screen in disbelief. “You orchestrated all of this without letting a single contract slip?”
“I built this company from my father’s garage,” I said firmly. “Victor was merely an actor I hired to play the chief executive.”
