PART 3: THE PALACE RECKONING
When the transport touched down near the secluded estate, the grand hall was filled with hundreds of international dignitaries, diplomats, and aristocrats.
Music echoed through the marble corridors, but as I walked through the main doors in my immaculate Navy dress dress uniform, a sudden hush fell over the room.
Rachel stood beside Prince Alexander near the head table, wearing a million-dollar custom gown, her smile freezing completely the moment her eyes met mine.
Her face drained of all color, her champagne glass trembling in her manicured hand as she took a instinctive step backward.
King Leopold himself stood up from the royal table, his regal presence instantly commanding the entire room as he motioned for me to approach.

The King turned his piercing gaze toward Rachel, whose eyes were wide with sheer terror as the surrounding guests began whispering in hushed, confused tones.
He revealed that during a security clearance audit earlier that morning, royal intelligence had uncovered that Commander Emily Carter had previously saved the life of a senior royal diplomat during an overseas naval deployment.
