Part 4: The Ultimate Shield

Before my father could speak a word of apology, the sharp screech of tires echoed from the driveway outside. Bright, high-beam headlights flashed through the front glass doors, illuminating the foyer in harsh white light.

A heavy black SUV had pulled up onto the lawn, blocking my gates. Two armed men in dark suits stepped out, followed by Marcus himself—dressed in a tailored coat, holding a heavy silver pistol.

“They found us,” Rachel shrieked, backing into the hallway in sheer panic. “Esther, he’s going to kill us!”

“Fifteen years ago, I was a helpless teenager with a broken suitcase, Richard,” I said, looking my father directly in his terrified eyes. “Today, I am the Chief Security Director for the Federal Financial Crime Task Force. I didn’t build this house with your money. I built it to hunt men like Marcus.”
