Conquering the Global Stage
By his mid-twenties, Nick Scott had built a world-class physique that rivaled able-bodied professional bodybuilders. But he faced a massive roadblock: there was virtually no mainstream platform for wheelchair bodybuilding. The sport was treated as a sideshow, a minor exhibition category with little funding, zero professional cards, and no global recognition.
Nick decided to change the entire landscape of the fitness industry single-handedly.
“If the door isn’t open, I’ll tear the wall down,” Nick declared during an early training seminar.
In March 2006, he launched Wheelchair Bodybuilding, Inc. (WCBB), a non-profit dedicated to raising funds and creating competitive opportunities for adaptive athletes worldwide. He worked tirelessly for years, cold-calling sponsors, writing proposals, and lobbying the International Federation of Bodybuilding (IFBB) to officially recognize wheelchair athletes as true professionals.
His relentless efforts culminated in 2011, when he made history by organizing the very first IFBB Pro Wheelchair Championship in Houston, Texas. For the first time ever, athletes with physical disabilities could earn professional status, win prize money, and compete on the same prestigious stages as the world’s top bodybuilders.
Nick didn’t just organize the events; he dominated them. He won the overall title at the NPC Wheelchair Nationals, earning his coveted IFBB Pro Card. To prove his incredible versatility, he also took up wheelchair ballroom dancing, quickly rising to become the undefeated number-one wheelchair ballroom dancer in the United States, performing live for Arnold Schwarzenegger himself……
