My father lost my mother twelve years ago. For a long time, he completely refused to fall in love again.
But suddenly, from one moment to the next… Everything changed. He created profiles on dating apps and started meeting wonderful women. But none of them stayed by his side.
At first, I thought they were simply incompatible. Until I started noticing something very strange. Every relationship ended in the exact same way. The date was a success, they said goodbye with a smile, and they made plans to see each other again.
And then… The next morning… The woman vanished. No calls. No text messages. Not a single explanation. Every single time, my father ended up heartbroken, whispering in a low voice: “I don’t understand. They all seemed so happy.”
When the sixth woman disappeared, I could no longer ignore it. Something wasn’t right. So I asked my best friend, Rachel, for a favor: “Go out with my dad just once.” She burst out laughing and asked, “Are you serious?” “Completely,” I replied, and after a lot of insisting, she agreed.
The date went even better than I imagined. Rachel called me that very night and told me, “Your dad is a wonderful man. I can’t believe none of those women gave him a real chance.” But the next morning, Rachel disappeared too. She didn’t answer her calls, and her phone sent everything straight to voicemail.
Late in the afternoon, I received a single message: “Do not look for me again. Please.” I knew immediately that the message didn’t sound like it was written by Rachel. I drove to her apartment. Her car was still parked there, and the lights were on inside, but nobody opened the door.
The next day, she finally called me, her voice trembling as she said, “I can’t explain it over the phone.” “When can we meet?” I asked. “Tomorrow morning,” she whispered.
I barely slept that night. The next morning, I waited for her outside her office. As soon as she arrived, I got straight to the point: “What happened? What did my dad do to you?” Rachel didn’t answer. She simply unlocked her phone… And showed me the screen.
