PART 2

But in the blink of an eye, everything changed!

Instead of a terrifying, high-pitched alarm squeal echoing across the park, what actually erupted from Milo’s open mouth was a tiny, high-velocity hiccup. 🙊

HIC!

The sudden, violent hiccup was so unexpectedly powerful that it actually startled Milo himself, causing his tiny furry body to bounce two whole inches straight up off the soft green grass.

His grand, dramatic crime scheme collapsed instantly into pure, unadulterated comedic failure.

Marcus burst into a roaring, uncontrollable fit of laughter, clutching his belly with both hands as he watched the little ape wobble wildly on his feet trying to regain his balance.

“Is that your big, scary battle cry, tiny guy?” Marcus laughed, kneeling down on one knee right near the bottom wooden rail.

HIC!

Milo bounced upwards a second time, his soft ears flopping back and forth as he flailed his tiny arms to keep from falling over backward onto his tailbone.

His dark brown eyes squeezed tightly shut in absolute betrayal by his own mischievous body.

How could a master criminal mind be completely defeated by a single, accidental swallow of air?

Suddenly, across the wide open enclosure, the heavy green bushes parted with a loud, ominous rustle.

Big Samson, the massive and imposing silverback patriarch of the entire gorilla family, emerged into the bright afternoon sunlight.

All 400 pounds of solid muscle, wide shoulders, and iconic silver-backed fur came stomping steadily down the grassy hill directly toward them.

Every single heavy footstep made the damp ground tremble subtly beneath Milo’s toes.

Marcus stopped laughing immediately, his smile fading slightly into a serious expression as he took a cautious step backward away from the wooden barrier.

Samson approached with slow, deliberate, regal authority, his massive head held high and his deep, intelligent brown eyes fixed intently on his youngest son standing awkwardly in the lawn.

Milo looked over his shoulder once more, his terrified gaze shifting rapidly back and forth between the looming silverback giant and the nervous zookeeper.

The entire sanctuary seemed to freeze into absolute silence, holding its collective breath.

Was Samson about to challenge the keeper for getting too close? Was he about to launch a protective attack to defend his tiny baby from imaginary danger?

Samson stopped his massive frame right next to little Milo.

He lowered his colossal, dark head until his giant, leathery nose was just two inches away from Milo’s trembling snout.

He sniffed his tiny son once, then twice, taking in the scent of fear and guilt.

HIC! Milo hiccupped loud and hard right into his gigantic father’s face.

Samson blinked his heavy eyelids slowly, his deep brow furrowing in utter confusion.

Then, in a soft, gentle move that absolutely nobody in the sanctuary expected, the gigantic silverback reached down with a broad hand the size of a metal dinner tray.

He didn’t roar. He didn’t beat his massive chest in aggression.
