Part 2

But in the blink of an eye, everything changed!

Grandfather Balthazar took three heavy, ground-shaking steps forward, his massive chest blocking out the morning sun. ☀️

The ancient silverback leaned down, bringing his massive snout just inches away from Kibo’s dramatically outstretched hand.

Kamara shuffled over as well, her motherly anxiety finally getting the better of her. 🦍

She peeked over Balthazar’s broad, silver-furred shoulders to see what on earth had caused her son to lose his mind.

The rest of the juvenile gorillas clustered around in a tight circle, holding their breath in terrified anticipation.

They expected to see a venomous viper reared back and ready to strike. 🐍

They expected to see a swarm of fiery army ants marching toward their campsite. 🐜

They even braced themselves for the sight of a rival silverback intruding on their sacred territory.

Instead, sitting quietly on a single, damp clover leaf right under Kibo’s pointed finger, was the tiny object of his wrath. 🌿

It was a golden-yellow banana peel. 🍌

Not an entire fruit. Just a discarded, slightly bruised peel.

Balthazar blinked his massive, brown eyes slowly.

He looked at the tiny yellow skin on the ground.

Then he looked up at Kibo’s frantic, dramatic face.

Kibo’s mouth remained wide open in that iconic O-shape, his dark eyes sparkling with absolute theatrical indignation. 😮

He thumped his chest once with his right hand, keeping his left arm extended like a grand statue.

“Do you see this?!” Kibo’s expressive eyes seemed to demand from his elder.

“Someone ate the inside! And they left me the garbage!” 🗑️

The realization hit the entire gorilla troop like a wave of pure comedy.

Two minutes earlier, Kibo had hidden that exact banana behind a mossy rock to save for his mid-morning snack.

He had spent twenty minutes searching for the absolute sweetest, ripest fruit in the upper canopy.

He had defended it from his greedy cousins.

He had carried it down the tree with extreme care, treating it like a precious jewel. 💎

He had tucked it away beneath two green leaves, convinced it was 100% safe.

And now, right in front of the entire forest, his treasure had been devoured, leaving behind nothing but the hollow yellow wrapper! 🍌

Kamara let out a loud, snorting chuff of laughter that sounded like a rusty engine revving up.

She covered her face with her leathery palm, shaking her head at her son’s unbelievable dramatic flair. 🤦‍♀️

“You made the entire mountain think a jaguar was attacking us… over a banana peel?” her amused gaze seemed to ask.

Balthazar let out a deep, rhythmic chest rumble that vibrated through the roots of the trees.

The terrifying leader of Bwindi was actually chuckling.

He reached down with his massive, battle-scarred hand, picked up the yellow peel, and dropped it right onto Kibo’s head like a tiny party hat. 🎉

The surrounding young gorillas burst into a chaotic chorus of hooting, screeching, and somersaulting laughter.

They rolled in the leaves, poking fun at Kibo’s frozen, shocked expression.

Kibo didn’t even drop his pose when the peel landed on his head.

He stood there, perfectly balanced on his hind legs, arm still extended, mouth still wide open to the heavens. 🌌

He was committed to his art. He was a master of suspense, a king of comedy, and he refused to break character.

Finally, after a full minute of holding the hilarious pose, Kibo slowly lowered his arm.
