Part 2

But in the blink of an eye, everything changed!

A sudden loud, high-pitched screeching sound echoed from the far end of the sanctuary grounds 🚨.

It wasn’t an alarm. It wasn’t a mechanical failure.

It was Barnaby’s arch-nemesis: a mischievous, hyperactive squirrel named Pip who lived in the oak tree right above the gorilla enclosure.

Pip was the only creature in the entire facility who knew Barnaby’s secret.

For days, Pip had watched from the high branches as Barnaby hid shiny treasures beneath his cherished pink blanket 🐿️.

Pip didn’t care about silver pens or keycards, but he had a deeply personal grudge against Barnaby.

The day before, Barnaby had accidentally sat on Pip’s stash of prize acorns, crushing them into fine dust. Revenge was long overdue.

While Barnaby was busy maintaining his suave, intellectual posture for the crowd of admiring tourists, Pip made his move.

The tiny squirrel scrambled down the bark of the large tree behind the silverback, completely unnoticed by the crowd 🌳.

With lightning speed, Pip darted across the green grass, leaped onto the corner of the pink blanket, and grabbed the shiny silver pen!

Barnaby’s eyes widened in absolute shock 👁️👁️.

His cool, calm, gentlemanly demeanor shattered into a thousand pieces in a fraction of a second.

He froze, the leaf stem still resting between his lips, his hand suspended in mid-air as he watched the tiny rodent attempt to pull off a robbery right under his nose!

How dare this tiny creature steal from him? The master thief of the Oakridge Sanctuary!

Barnaby made a fast, sweeping grab with his massive right hand to swat the intruder away 👋.

He missed.

Pip scampered backward, yanked hard on the shiny pen, and pulled the edge of the blanket up with it!

The sudden movement caused the folded blanket to slip down the slight slope of the grassy hill.

Like a curtain rising on a theater stage, the pink velvet blanket rolled away, exposing the entire secret stash to the world 😱!

There, lying in the bright morning sunlight on the vivid green grass, was an astonishing collection of missing property.

Three pairs of reading glasses glittered under the sun.
