The brass apple paperweight sparkled brightly.

Five different sets of master keys lay in a neat pile.

And right in the center sat Sarah’s missing iPad, its screen lighting up with a low-battery notification 📱!

The crowd of tourists went dead silent.

Detective Miller stopped in his tracks, his mouth dropping wide open in utter disbelief 😲.

Sarah blinked once. She blinked twice. She rubbed her eyes, utterly convinced she was hallucinating.

“Is that… my iPad?” Sarah gasped, pointing a shaking finger toward the green lawn.

“And my reading glasses!” shouted Miller, adjusting his hat as he stepped closer to the glass partition. “The ape is the thief?!”

Barnaby realized he had been caught red-handed. The evidence was right there in front of a dozen witnesses and a camera crew.

His brilliant reputation as a dignified, philosophical ape was completely ruined in a matter of seconds.

For two agonizing seconds, Barnaby looked at the pile of loot, then looked up at Detective Miller, and finally looked at the crowd.

His furrowed brows tightened. He took a slow breath, maintaining his posture as best as he could 🧘‍♂️.

Instead of panicking, instead of roaring or running away, Barnaby did the most legendary thing imaginable.

He slowly brought the green leaf stem back to his lips, took a tiny, deliberate bite, and casually chewed it while looking directly into Detective Miller’s eyes.

He didn’t flinch. He didn’t show an ounce of guilt.

He gave a look that clearly said: “Yeah. It was me the whole time. What are you going to do about it?” 😎

The silence was broken by an explosion of laughter from the crowd!

Tourists started cheering, clapping, and taking hundreds of videos as the reality of the situation set in 📸.

“He’s a criminal mastermind!” someone yelled from the back.

“Give him his own TV show!” another person laughed.

Detective Miller stood there, torn between being infuriated and being genuinely impressed by the gorilla’s unbelievable intellect and utter confidence.

“I’ve been a detective for thirty years,” Miller said, shaking his head with a wide smile. “I got outsmarted by a silverback who sits on a pink blanket.”

Sarah couldn’t even be mad. She shook her head in amazement as she unlocked the side gate to retrieve her stolen belongings.

As she picked up her iPad and keys, she looked at Barnaby, who was still sitting gracefully cross-legged on his patch of grass.
