“Don’t touch me, Cole,” she snapped, her tone sharp and devoid of the affection shown in her text messages. “You told me you were single, rich, and running this branch. You lied to me about everything!”
She didn’t just leave his side; she practically sprinted toward the elevators, leaving Cole standing entirely alone in the center of the room. The woman he had abandoned his family for had discarded him in less than thirty seconds the moment the facade shattered.
Mr. Harrison stepped forward, handing Cole a white envelope. “Your access badge has already been deactivated, Cole. Security will escort you to your desk so you can gather your personal belongings in a single box, and then you will be removed from the premises. The legal department is currently preparing a formal filing for full restitution, and formal charges will be submitted by the end of the day.”
Cole stood frozen, holding the termination letter with trembling hands. The entire office—dozens of colleagues he had tried so hard to impress—watched in total silence as two security guards stepped up beside him.
It was at that exact moment that Cole turned his head and caught my gaze.
He froze. The realization washed over him like a tidal wave. He saw me standing there, calm, composed, and standing tall. For sixteen years, I had been his rock, the woman who managed our home, nurtured our children, and kept our lives anchored while he chased his ambitions. He had discarded that loyalty for something hollow, and now, in a matter of minutes, he had lost his career, his reputation, his mistress, and his pride.
He opened his mouth, perhaps to call my name or offer some pathetic plea for help, but no sound came out. The security guards placed a firm hand on his shoulder and turned him toward his office.
I didn’t say a word. I didn’t raise my voice, and I didn’t throw a scene. I simply adjusted my coat, looked him straight in the eye with complete indifference, and turned around. As I walked out through the glass doors into the morning sunlight, a profound sense of peace washed over me. The pain was still real, and the road ahead as a mother of six would require immense strength, but the fear was gone. He had made his choice, and life had delivered its answer far swifter than I could have ever imagined.
