The atmosphere in the room transformed instantly. The air felt heavy, suffocating. Principal Warren’s face drained of all color, his mouth opening slightly as he stared at the phone on the desk. Mrs. Carver took an involuntary step backward, her hand fluttering to her throat as the weight of my real identity crashed down on them.

“G-General?” Warren stammered, his polished composure completely shattering. “You… you’re General Vance?”

“I am,” I said, standing up to my full height. “I chose to raise my daughter as a private citizen because I believed her character should be built on its own merits, not my position. But my duty as a father, and as an officer, is to protect the vulnerable from those who abuse authority.”

Before Warren could formulate a response, the sound of approaching sirens echoed outside the office windows. Red and blue lights flashed across the blinds, illuminating the room. Footsteps echoed heavily down the hallway, and within seconds, three police officers accompanied by the district’s legal compliance officer entered the room.

Chief Harrison stepped forward, nodding respectfully toward me before turning his attention to Warren and Mrs. Carver. “Principal Warren, Mrs. Carver, you are being detained pending a full investigation into child endangerment and extortion charges. Please step away from the desk.”
