As Sebastian loaded the final floral suitcase into the back of his truck, he walked up to Valerie one last time. He looked completely defeated, stripped of the unearned confidence he had displayed just twelve hours earlier.

“Where are we supposed to go?” he asked quietly.

“That is a decision for you and your family to make,” Valerie replied, standing on her front porch as the legal owner of the property. “My attorney will handle all future communication regarding the dissolution of our marriage and the restitution of the diverted funds. Do not attempt to contact me directly.”

Sebastian got into his truck, started the engine, and slowly pulled out of the driveway, leaving the quiet suburban street behind.

Valerie walked back inside her quiet home, closed the heavy oak door, and locked the new deadbolt with a soft, decisive click. She walked into her clean kitchen, picked up her morning coffee, and looked out the window at the sunny, peaceful lawn, fully restored to the life she had earned for herself.
