Iván stepped up, his face red with anger. “You can’t do this! You’re going to ruin the family reputation! Do you know what people will say?”

“I don’t care about your reputation, Iván,” I replied coldly. “You called me a failure ten minutes ago in front of fifty people. Now, you can explain to those fifty people why the police and forensic auditors will be arriving at this house by tomorrow morning.”

My father took a step toward me, the arrogance completely drained from his face. For the first time in my life, I saw him look small. He looked down at the paper in his hands, seeing the names of the law firms, the stamp of the judicial court, and the undeniable paper trail that linked his wealth directly to my mother’s legacy. He opened his mouth to speak, to command, to manipulate, but no words came out. The powerful patriarch had run out of lies.

I opened the door to my car and sat inside, starting the engine. Through the window, I looked at my father one last time.

“Happy Father’s Day, Dad,” I said quietly. “You always said I confused charity with success. Today, I’m just taking back what was always mine.”

I drove away, leaving the estate, the luxury, and the years of emotional abuse behind in my rear-view mirror, ready to finally step into the life my mother had intended for me all along.
