Part 2

But in the blink of an eye, everything changed!

Leo did not lose his balance and fall backward onto the soft grass as every experienced ape in the troop fully expected him to do.

Instead, with a sudden, explosive burst of baby energy, he threw his entire small body forward with all the strength his shaky little legs could muster! 🚀

He launched himself right at Kael’s massive knee, planting his tiny, warm palms directly against his father’s thick, dark fur.

Kael let out a sharp, quick intake of air, freezing completely rigid like a giant statue carved out of solid dark obsidian.

He held his breath entirely, terrified that moving even a millimeter of muscle might disturb the delicate balance of his fearless, unpredictable son.

Leo dug his miniature toes firmly into the green turf, scrambling his legs upward in an ambitious attempt to scale his father like a giant jungle tree.

He let out another loud, squeaky battle cry, a triumphant screech that echoed softly through the tall trunks of the surrounding mahogany trees.

The watching troop erupted into a flurry of soft, astonished grunts, utterly stunned by the sheer audacity of the three-month-old infant.

Leo’s mother, watching intently from the leafy shadows nearby, shifted her weight uneasily, ready to intervene at a moment’s notice.

She knew the tremendous, crushing power contained within Kael’s heavy limbs, and she knew how impossibly fragile their tiny infant was by comparison.

Yet Kael did not pull away, nor did he issue a stern warning growl to assert his dominance over the glade.

Instead, the legendary, terrifying leader of the rainforest performed an act so extraordinarily gentle that it left the entire troop in silent awe.

He slowly, with incredible care, lowered his giant left shoulder, slanting his massive torso down toward the soft green earth.

He deliberately transformed his powerful, muscular side into a gentle, sloping ramp covered in soft, warm dark fur for his son to lean against.

With infinite patience, Kael curled his massive, heavy-fingered right hand into a protective, rounded wall behind Leo’s tiny back.

He constructed an impenetrable fortress of solid muscle around the infant, ensuring that no matter which way the clumsy toddler wobbled, he could never fall to the ground.
