Samson sat down cross-legged right in the middle of the grass, holding the silver chest between his massive thighs.

Barnaby dropped down from the roof, landing lightly right on Samson’s broad, silver-furred shoulder. 🐒

With incredible dexterity, Samson popped open the latches of the metal chest.

Inside wasn’t weapons, secret plans, or tools.

Inside was the sanctuary’s emergency stash of high-grade, organic dried mangoes, imported Belgian dark chocolate, and roasted cashew nuts meant for staff birthday parties.

The entire crowd erupted into wild laughter and cheers!

Samson hadn’t planned a break-out.

He had planned a midnight snack raid in broad daylight.

He carefully grabbed a bag of dried mangoes, opened it with two fingers, and handed half of it to tiny Barnaby on his shoulder.

Then, Samson turned back toward the fence, looked right at Head Keeper Marcus, and offered him a piece of dark chocolate.

Marcus stood there with his mouth wide open, completely outsmarted by a silverback and a capuchin monkey.

Slowly, a huge smile broke out across Marcus’s face.

He shook his head in absolute disbelief, took the piece of chocolate from Samson’s huge palm, and took a big bite.

“Well,” Marcus said into his microphone, his voice trembling with laughter. “I guess lunch is served early today!”

The entire sanctuary broke into thunderous applause.

Samson sat back on the soft green grass, chewing happily on his mangoes, looking around at the cheering crowd like a king enjoying his court.

He looked back toward my camera lens one last time.

Slowly, deliberately, he raised those two fingers right back into the air. ✌️

Peace, love, and premium snacks.
