I read the message twice. I felt no surge of anger, no desire for vengeance, and no urge to gloat. The bitterness that had weighed on my shoulders for years had completely vanished the moment our flight left the tarmac.
I slowly swiped the screen, selected the contact, and pressed Block.
A few minutes later, the cabin door opened softly, and a flight attendant offered a polite smile. “Miss Sarah, captain says we’ve just entered international airspace. Can I bring you or the children anything?”
“No, thank you,” I said softly, adjusting the blanket over Connor’s shoulders. “We have everything we need.”
I looked out the window at the endless horizon of white clouds and clear blue sky ahead. Below us, the past was settling into the dust where it belonged. Ahead of us lay London, fresh starts built on true honesty, and a life where my children would never have to ask if their safety was too expensive.
