And through it all, Kivu—the name we officially gave the little hero—never left my side during his recovery.

Visitors from all over the world come to our sanctuary today and witness us sitting together on the grass.
They see a ranger and a baby gorilla sharing a quiet moment of warmth and affection.
They take photos of his tiny hand resting against my shirt, smiling at the sweet simplicity of the picture.
But they don’t just see a cute photo.
They see a testament to resilience, a reminder that love is a universal language spoken without words.
Every time I look down into his eyes, I am reminded that even in the darkest, most dangerous corners of our world, hope finds a way to shine through.
When you extend a hand of compassion to a creature in need, you don’t just change their world—you change yours forever.
