But in the blink of an eye, everything changed!
Milo didn’t jump down to grab the berry.
Instead, he did something far more sinister.
He reached out his surprisingly long little arm, snatched the berry while remaining glued to her neck, and popped it whole into his mouth. 🍓
Then he let out a satisfied little burp.
He settled right back down into his prime position on her shoulders.
He didn’t drop his feet to the earth.
He didn’t lose his balance for even a fraction of a second.
He had successfully harvested resources without ever relinquishing his throne.
Kira let out a long, heavy groan that sounded like a foggy harbor horn.
She realized she was dealing with a tactical genius.
A tiny, furry evil genius. 🧠
Her neck was now burning with the heat of a thousand molten fires.
She knew that if she stayed in this position for another five minutes, she would permanently become a side-looking creature.
She needed a new strategy.
A mother’s intuition is a powerful force, but gorilla mother desperation is unmatched in the animal kingdom.
She began to look carefully around the immediate landscape.
To her left was the steep dirt embankment covered in clinging green vines. 🌱
To her right was the flat, grassy clearing where the rest of the troop was lounging.
Directly in front of her was a low-hanging tree branch, lush with wide green leaves.
That branch was her salvation.
Kira began to walk sideways like a massive jungle crab. 🦀
Her heavy feet shuffled carefully through the dust.
Milo didn’t mind the crab walk.
In fact, he seemed to find the gentle swaying motion quite relaxing.
His eyelids were actually beginning to droop.
He was getting sleepy. 😴
“Oh no, you don’t,” Kira thought to herself, her eyes narrowing with intense focus.
“If you fall asleep on my neck, I will be stuck here until sunset!”
She accelerated her crab walk.
She headed directly for the low-hanging branch.
The strategy was simple, brilliant, and elegant.
She would walk beneath the branch at precisely the height of her own head.
The branch would gently brush Milo off her back like a leaf sweeper on a driveway. 🧹
It was foolproof.
It was scientific.
She lined herself up with military precision.
She calculated the angle, the slope of the hill, and the dip of the wooden bough.
Step one: approach the branch.
Step two: slide underneath.
Step three: freedom!
She took three rapid steps forward.
Milo was nodding off, his little chin resting gently on her neck fur.
The branch drew closer and closer.
