The sheer speed of the catch created a sharp whoosh of air that blew Barnaby’s shoulder leaf right off his skin.

Barnaby gasped in total outrage.

“My wardrobe!” Barnaby barked in gorilla language, his eyes snapping open in anger. “Who dares disrupt my silhouette?!”

He slowly turned his head to scold whatever clumsy creature had ruined his viral moment.

What he saw made his heart jump straight into his throat.

Samson was standing right behind him, holding an eight-foot wriggling snake in one hand like a piece of dirty rope.

Samson didn’t even look stressed or winded.

He held the angry reptile up to his eye level, blinked twice with utter boredom, and then nonchalantly tossed the giant snake twenty feet away straight into the deep river behind the trees.

SPLASH!

The snake hit the water and swam away as fast as its scales could carry it, completely traumatized by the encounter.

Barnaby sat frozen in the damp grass, his mouth wide open, his majestic posture entirely collapsing into a ball of sheer shock.

His chest was no longer puffed out.

His chin was no longer raised toward the sky.

He looked like a small, startled kitten trapped inside a giant gorilla suit.

He looked back at Samson, then over at the river, then back at Samson again.

“Was… was that thing right behind me the whole time?” Barnaby squeaked out a low, embarrassed grunt.

Samson didn’t say a single word.

He simply reached down, picked up another handful of bamboo leaves, and casually wiped his giant hand on his hip.

Then, Samson gave Barnaby a look that spoke volumes.

It was a look every younger sibling in human history knows all too well.

It was the look that said: “You are alive today purely because I let you live.”

Samson reached down into the mud, picked up Barnaby’s fallen green leaf, and gently tossed it back onto Barnaby’s lap.

Then he turned around and slowly lumbered back into the dark shade of the banana trees to resume his afternoon lunch.

Barnaby sat in the grass for a long time, totally motionless.

Fifty yards away, the camera crew broke into quiet, stunned cheer.

They had captured the entire event on high-speed video: the majestic pose, the silent threat, the lightning-fast rescue, and the hilarious look of sudden realization on Barnaby’s face.

Barnaby looked down at the green leaf sitting in his lap.

Then he looked over his shoulder at the massive shadow of his older brother resting peacefully in the bushes.

For the first time in his life, Barnaby realized something profound.

He wasn’t safe in the forest because of his sharp jawline, his posture, or his dramatic poses.

He was free to dream, pose, and act like a star because someone bigger, stronger, and quieter was always watching his back from the shadows. 🦍❤️
