part 2

But in the blink of an eye, everything changed!

Barnaby, losing every single ounce of his remaining patience, launched his tiny body forward from her back like a furry rocket.

His small feet kicked off her massive shoulder with surprising power, sending him flying straight toward the half-opened lid of the box.

Martha didn’t even have enough time to swallow her tactical peanut or register the sudden movement of her chaotic child.

She lunged forward desperately to catch him mid-air, but her massive, heavy hand accidentally smashed directly into the side of the box.

The cardboard buckled instantly under her immense, raw strength, tearing completely open with a loud, dramatic, and echoing crash.

The shiny wrapping paper shredded into a dozen bright pieces, flying high into the morning air like a burst of festive confetti.

Barnaby landed face-first right into the center of the colorful debris, his little legs kicking wildly in the air as he rolled over.

Martha braced herself for the absolute worst, closing her eyes tightly and shielding her head with her thick, powerful arms.

Three long seconds passed in complete silence. Then five seconds. Then ten seconds. The world around them remained completely intact and calm.

Slowly, with great hesitation, she opened one single eye, peering cautiously through the gaps of her thick, dark fingers to assess the damage.

The beautiful striped box was completely destroyed, flattened flat against the green grass like a pancake after a long storm.

And sitting right in the middle of the colorful paper wreckage was the mysterious, shiny object that had caused so much tension.

It wasn’t a dangerous bomb designed to destroy her home, and it wasn’t a clever trap meant to capture her soul.

It was a magnificent, highly polished metal mirror, securely mounted on a heavy, durable wooden block that kept it upright.

Martha blinked once, then twice, her eyes widening to the absolute size of saucers as she stared at the reflection inside the glass.

For a long, confusing second, she didn’t even recognize the face staring back at her from the smooth, silver surface.

She saw a large, majestic gorilla with deeply furrowed brows, intense, intelligent eyes, and a very comical peanut stuck directly to her lip.

She tilted her head to the left, watching closely as the mysterious gorilla inside the mirror tilted her head to the left instantly.

She shifted her peanut to the right side of her mouth, and the gorilla in the mirror did the exact same thing with perfect timing.

Martha gasped loudly, her hand flying straight to her mouth in pure shock, accidentally knocking her lucky peanut right into the grass.

“Oh my goodness,” she thought, her mind completely blown by the incredible revelation staring back at her from the wooden block.

“I am not just a regular gorilla living in an enclosure, I am an absolutely stunning creature of pure grace and beauty.”

Barnaby crawled out from under a large piece of blue wrapping paper, shaking his head to clear the dust from his eyes.

He looked into the mirror too, seeing his own tiny, round face appear right next to his mother’s massive, imposing head.

He let out a joyous, high-pitched shriek, reaching out with both hands to touch the smooth, cold surface of the reflective glass.

His little, wrinkled fingers left a perfect, blurry smudge right on his reflection’s tiny nose, making him laugh with delight.

Martha didn’t even scold him this time for ruining the pristine glass, which was highly unusual for her strict parenting style.
