Elena slowly approached the giant creature, keeping her movements predictable and smooth. She knelt a few feet away, extending her hand.

“May I?” she asked softly.

The gorilla looked at her hand, then at the wrapper. With incredible gentleness, he dropped the candy bar into her open palm. Elena carefully peeled back the silver foil, exposing the dark chocolate beneath. The sweet aroma filled the damp air. 🍫

She broke off a large piece and offered it back to him. The silverback picked it up with two fingers, sniffed it thoroughly, and then popped it into his mouth. A look of pure satisfaction crossed his expressive face. He closed his eyes, chewing slowly, looking remarkably like a human enjoying a fine meal.

“He’s incredible,” Elena said, sitting down on the grass a safe distance away. “He’s not just wild. He understands us.”

“He understands the forest,” Marcus corrected gently, sitting down beside her. “We’re just the visitors here.”

The gorilla opened his eyes, finished his treat, and went back to his favorite pose. He crossed his arms over his chest, tilted his head back, and stared up into the green canopy above, utterly lost in thought. 🌳

“Maybe he’s just enjoying the quiet,” Marcus smiled, looking up at the sky with him. “Or maybe he’s just waiting for the rain to stop.”
