The Guardian Awakens
Suddenly, the old silverback’s snoring stopped. The giant shifted his weight, causing a few loose pebbles to clatter across the stone floor. Pendo and Kito froze, holding their breath, but it was too late. The guardian’s eyes snapped open. They were deep amber, filled with a sharp, ancient intelligence that seemed to pierce right through the darkness. 👁️
The old gorilla stood up, his massive chest expanding as he let out a low, warning rumble that vibrated through the very floor beneath Pendo and Kito’s feet.
“Who dares disturb the peace of the high peak?” the old guardian thundered, his voice deep and resonant.
Pendo stepped in front of Kito, instinctively protecting his friend. “We mean no disrespect, Great One. A landslide destroyed our path below and blocked the cave mouth. We are only seeking a safe passage back to our troop.”
The guardian walked forward, his heavy footsteps echoing like drumbeats. He stopped just a few paces away, his amber eyes scanning Pendo’s dark features before shifting to lock onto Kito’s unique, snow-white fur. The old gorilla’s expression softened from anger to pure astonishment.
“The white phantom of the valley,” the guardian breathed, his voice dropping to a whisper. “The prophecy of the mountain is true.”
Kito blinked, completely confused. “Prophecy? I’m just Kito. I just have a hard time hiding in the bushes when we play seek-and-find.”
The old guardian let out a sudden, booming laugh that sounded like cracking thunder. The tension in the cavern evaporated instantly.
“You have a good spirit, young one,” the guardian chuckled, patting a massive hand against his own knee. “My name is Goma. I have lived up here in isolation for many seasons, waiting for the day when the dark and the light would come together to unlock the path to the true paradise.”
