Part 2

But in the blink of an eye, everything changed!

A tiny, bright yellow sunbird darted down from the upper branches and landed directly on the exposed sole of Barnaby’s left foot. 🐦

The bird’s tiny, sharp claw tickled the sensitive, leathery skin right between his third and fourth toes. 🦶

For a infant gorilla trying to play dead, a sudden tickle attack on the bottom of the foot is the ultimate test of physical endurance.

Barnaby’s toes twitched violently, trying desperately to resist the tickle without ruining his world-class tragic performance.

He gritted his teeth under his dark lips, keeping his arms clamped over his eyes while his legs quivered uncontrollably in the air. 😖

The sunbird, completely unaware of the dramatic masterpiece taking place, hopped over to the other foot and began pecking at a speck of dry mud.

Barnaby couldn’t take it anymore.

He let out a loud, high-pitched, wildly un-gorilla-like snort of muffled laughter that echoed through the quiet forest clearing. 🤭

The entire audience of jungle animals instantly froze in total shock.

Silas the silverback blinked his big amber eyes, lowering his massive brow in utter confusion. 🧐

The young chimps above gasped, realizing that the supposedly tragic medical emergency had just snorted like a amused piglet. 🐷

Mama Kamba didn’t even look surprised; she simply raised one heavy black eyebrow and took a slow, deliberate step closer to her upside-down son. 🐾

Barnaby knew his cover was completely blown, but his ego was far too massive to simply sit up and admit defeat.

Instead of rolling over gracefully, he decided to commit even harder to his absurd posture.

He kept his lower back pressed firmly into the damp dirt, his legs stiffly elevated toward the canopy like two furry black antennas. 📡

He shifted his upper body slightly, burying his face deeper into the crushed green leaves as if pretending that snort had come from someone else entirely. 🌿

Looking closely at him sprawled across the forest floor, the sheer comedy of his physical anatomy was on full display.

His shiny, thick black fur was thoroughly matted with bits of moss, dry twigs, and flattened jungle flora. 🌾

His belly was sticking up into the air, rounded like a small dark melon from his heavy breakfast of leafy greens. 🍉

His leathery feet, angled awkwardly against the daylight, showed the exact padded ridges that were meant for climbing trees, not pointing at clouds. 🌳

His long, muscular arms were wrapped clumsily around his head, shielding his face in a desperate attempt to ignore the mounting embarrassment. 🙈

Mama Kamba walked over until her giant, mountain-sized shadow completely covered Barnaby’s inverted body.

She didn’t grab him by the arm.

She didn’t scold him or make a loud, angry roaring sound. 📢
