But in the blink of an eye, everything changed!

Just as Kibo opened his jaws to clamp down on his own big toe, a loud, thunderous snort echoed through the leafy ferns right beside him. 🌿

It was Mama Kalama turning her massive head around to check on her little troublemaker.

She looked down at Kibo lying on his back, his fur sticking straight up like a crazy mad scientist wig, holding his own giant foot in the air with a look of sheer panic.

She let out a deep, rumbling jungle grunt that sounded almost like a heavy belly laugh.

Mama Kalama slowly ambled over, her heavy footsteps shaking the soft earth beneath the ferns.

She reached down with her massive, gentle hand and gave Kibo’s lifted foot a soft, affectionate pat.

Then she leaned in close and gently booped her shiny black nose against Kibo’s trembling nose. 👃

In that exact split second, the heavy fog of confusion inside Kibo’s head completely cleared away.

He looked at Mama’s huge, weathered feet resting on the ground.

Then he looked back up at his own foot floating high in the air.

They were identical!

His foot wasn’t an alien monster.

It wasn’t an overgrown jungle fungus.

It wasn’t a dark shadow trying to consume his soul.

It was just his very own, brand-new, growing gorilla foot! 🦶

He had simply grown so big over the last few weeks that he had never actually seen his own feet raised at that funny angle before!

A sudden burst of pure joy and absolute hilarity flooded through Kibo’s little body.

His terrified gasp transformed instantly into a wide, toothless baby grin. 😃

His eyes sparkled under the morning sunlight filtering through the dense green canopy.

He let out a series of happy, bubbling giggles that sounded like tiny chiming bells across the forest floor.

He grabbed his foot with both hands again, but this time he didn’t pull back in fear.

He pulled it right up to his face and gave his big toe a happy little lick! 👅

Mama Kalama shook her head fondly, nudging Kibo with her soft snout until he rolled over into a pile of fluffy green leaves.

Kibo kicked both of his legs high into the air, admiring his grand, powerful limbs.

He wasn’t a monster. He was a future king of the mountain forest! 👑
