PART 2
But in the blink of an eye, everything changed!
Instead of pulling Arthur forward or throwing a sudden, furious strike, King Bob did something that nobody in a million years could have ever predicted. 🦍
He slowly, deliberately pulled his massive hand back.
Then, he rolled over onto his back with a deep, heavy sigh that sounded remarkably like a weary human settling into bed.
His enormous belly stuck up into the cool air, covered in thick, dark fur that glistened with tiny drops of morning dew.
He folded his massive arms neatly behind his head, resting his skull right against his broad shoulders.
He looked like a man relaxing on a sunny beach on a summer afternoon, completely unbothered by the world. 🏖️
Arthur slowly opened one eye.
Then he opened the other.
He couldn’t believe what he was looking at.
The terrifying, imposing King Bob was now lying right in front of him, looking utterly relaxed and comfortable.
The giant silverback turned his head slowly to the side, looking directly at Arthur with calm, curious eyes.
There was no anger in those dark eyes.
There was no aggression, no dominance, and no fear.
There was only a quiet, deep, intelligent curiosity that seemed to look straight into Arthur’s soul.
King Bob reached out his hand again, but this time, he didn’t grab the bright yellow jacket.
He carefully picked up a tiny green bamboo shoot that was growing out of the dark mud right near Arthur’s boot.
He brought it up to his nose, smelled it thoughtfully, and then casually tossed it aside like a rejected snack.
Then he looked back at Arthur, as if waiting for a response.
Arthur’s heart was still pounding against his chest, but the overwhelming terror began to melt away, replaced by a deep wave of awe.
He realized in that quiet moment that the giant creature wasn’t seeing a threat.
He was seeing another living being sitting in his peaceful home.
He was seeing a visitor who had come all this way into the cold, foggy mountains just to share a few quiet moments in his presence.
Arthur slowly, carefully lowered his hands from his chest.
He kept his movements extremely slow and predictable, making sure not to make any sudden gestures that might startle the majestic animal.
He took a slow, deep breath, letting the fresh air fill his lungs.
He smiled—a small, subtle, gentle smile—keeping his mouth closed so he wouldn’t show his teeth, which animals can sometimes misinterpret as a threat.
King Bob seemed to recognize the shift in Arthur’s energy immediately.
